What is The History Research and Development Project ?
NOW A MEMBER OF THE OPEN RESEARCH COMMUNITY (ORCID) AND PUBLIC LIBRARY OF SCIENCE (PLOS)
The ORCID community includes individual researchers, universities, national laboratories, commercial research organizations, research funders, publishers, national science agencies, data repositories, and international professional societies, all of whom have been critically affected by the lack of a central registry for researchers. Prior to the launch of ORCID, over 300 organizations had registered their support for ORCID, and 50 of these provided start-up financial support. Since launch, a number and variety of organizations are integrating ORCID identifiers into their research workflows, using the application programming interfaces (APIs) ORCID has made available.
ORCID has set up groups in each area to guide and support the evolution and ongoing development of the ORCID system. These are structured to facilitate broad and open participation of interested community members, provide opportunities to participate with different levels of time commitment according to interest and expertise, and provide ORCID guidance on priorities and execution of specific plans. ORCID encourages and welcomes community involvement in our Business, Outreach and Technical activities, including Steering Groups, Working Groups, and Community Groups. Through community participation, we better understand your needs and requirements so that we can prioritize, plan, and implement features and tools to support you.
STEERING GROUPS
ORCID Steering Groups provide input and guidance to the Executive Director overall strategy and priority setting. At the discretion of the Executive Director, key recommendations will be brought before the ORCID Board for review and vote. Steering Group membership is by appointment by the Executive Director after consultation with the ORCID Executive Committee, and must include at least one Board member.
WORKING GROUPS
Steering Groups may create ad hoc Working Groups as needed to work on specific tasks and deliverables. Working Group membership is drawn from active members of the ORCID community and is by appointment by the Director and Steering Group Chair.
